This organic pigment red 63:1 , also known as BON Maroon (calcium salt) or Lake Bordeaux, is a cost-effective red pigment. Its excellent chemical stability and resistance to a wide range of solvents make it ideal for industrial coating systems requiring low-cost yet stable performance.

Although Red 63:1 exhibits good heat resistance (200°C), its moderate lightfastness may cause fading with long-term outdoor use. Therefore, it is more recommended for interior industrial paints, toy coatings, or products subject to short-term exposure. Furthermore, it disperses well in plastics and rubber, making it suitable for coloring artificial leather, packaging materials, and other applications.

Pigment Red 63:1 Properties

Insoluble in water.

Sparingly soluble in ethanol.

Red 63:1 turns bluish crimson in concentrated sulfuric acid and forms a brownish crimson precipitate upon dilution.

Red 63:1 turns dark crimson in concentrated nitric acid. It turns brownish red in concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.
