What Gives Pigment Violet 19 Its Heat and Light Resistance?
Pigment Violet 19 (PV19) belongs to the quinacridone family of high-performance organic pigments. Its high fastness is associated not only with the quinacridone molecular structure, but also with the way the molecules interact and organize in the solid pigment.
In quinacridone crystals, N–H and carbonyl groups allow neighboring molecules to form intermolecular NH···O=C hydrogen bonds. These interactions work together with π–π intermolecular interactions to form a strongly associated crystal lattice, which contributes to the high stability characteristic of quinacridone pigments.[1]
Lightfastness is more complex than molecular stability alone. Research comparing linear trans-quinacridone nanoparticles with molecularly dispersed quinacridone found that the pigment nanoparticles were significantly more lightfast. The study associated this behavior with rapid non-radiative relaxation of photoexcited states promoted by molecular aggregation, indicating that the solid particle state also plays an important role in the lightfastness of quinacridone pigments.[2]
For industrial buyers, this means that the Pigment Violet 19 chemical identity alone does not completely define the performance of every commercial grade. Crystal organization and particle state can influence pigment behavior, so grade-specific performance data should also be considered during material selection. For the E5B PV19 grade on this page, the product specification lists a heat resistance of 300°C and a light-resistance rating of 8.
FAQ
Can Pigment Violet 19 E5B be shipped by sea or air?
Yes. Pigment Violet 19 E5B is listed as non-hazardous goods for land, inland waterway, marine and air transportation, which supports conventional international shipping arrangements.
How should PV19 pigment be stored before use?
PV19 pigment should be kept in a tightly closed, dry container and stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place. It should also be kept away from ignition sources and incompatible materials.
What should industrial users consider when handling Pigment Violet 19?
Suitable workplace ventilation should be provided, and appropriate protective clothing, gloves and eye protection should be used during handling. Dust accumulation and contact with ignition sources should also be avoided.
