Pigment Red 48:2 has excellent versatility in plastics applications. Compared to similar products, its lightfastness is superior to PR48:1. In the ink industry, it is described as the "standard color for gravure inks," although it may thicken in water-based inks. To ensure adequate lightfastness, it is recommended to use it in dark-colored products or at high concentrations to maximize its performance advantages.
Product Features
1. Red 48:2 exhibits "good dispersibility" and "excellent dispersing power," ensuring easy and consistent color development during production.2. Red 48:2 exhibits a purplish-red color in concentrated sulfuric acid, producing a bluish-red precipitate upon dilution; a brownish-red color in concentrated nitric acid; and a red color in sodium hydroxide solution.
3. Organic 48:2 red pigment offers "good light and heat resistance," but specifically states "poor acid and alkali resistance."

Remark:● Highly Recommended ○ Suitable
1. Ink Applications
Pigment Red 48:2 is a classic bluish-red pigment in the ink industry. Its high color saturation and strong tinting strength produce vibrant, rich prints. It is particularly suitable for NC (nitrocellulose)-based packaging printing inks, meeting the printing needs of various flexible packaging applications. It provides excellent performance in offset, water-based, and solvent-based inks. However, when using it in water-based systems, it is important to be aware of the potential thickening effect and adjust the formulation accordingly.
2. Coating Applications
In the coatings industry, Pigment Red 48:2 demonstrates wide applicability. It has been successfully used in industrial coatings and decorative water-based and solvent-based coatings. It is also a preferred organic pigment for powder coatings. This pigment meets the basic requirements for color consistency and tinting strength. However, its limited acid and alkali resistance should be noted. Therefore, the specific environmental conditions of the coating should be carefully considered when determining the end-use application.
3. Plastic Applications
In the field of plastic coloration, Pigment Red 48:2 exhibits excellent compatibility with a variety of general-purpose plastics:
Polyolefins (PO): Widely used for coloring LDPE, with heat stability up to 230°C/5 minutes in HDPE. It is also suitable for injection molding, extrusion, and spinning of PP.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC): Its non-migration and non-bleeding properties in soft PVC make it a reliable choice for coloring PVC products.
Other Polymers: It is also suitable for coloring rubber, EVA, PUR, and PS.
This product strikes an excellent balance between economy and performance, with high tinting strength and excellent dispersibility, helping to reduce overall coloring costs. To ensure optimal lightfastness, it is recommended for use in dark products or at high addition levels.
